Library Membership

Do I need to make a Library membership card?

No. Your Student/Staff ID card is also your Library membership card.


What should I do if I lose my ID card?

You must report to the Reference Assistant at Service Counter, Level G, Main Library immediately to deactivate your library account. Alternatively, you may deactivate your library account online by logging in to Library InfoWeb. The steps are as follows:


Step 1:

Click on “Login” tab on the top menu bar.    

 

Step 2:

Enter your 'ID Barcode No.' (as printed on your ID card) and your password.

 

Step 3:

Click on "My Account" tab on the top menu bar.

 

Step 4:

Click on "I lost my card" button.


Can alumni borrow library books?

Yes. Alumni (with Alumni Access card) can borrow library books, provided they have paid an annual library fee of RM50.00 and RM600.00 deposit for 2 books.

What is a Call Number?

A Call Number is a unique number (usually numbers and letters) that indicate an item’s shelving location in the library. 

iDiscover

Does iDiscover replace Locate?

No. iDiscover is a starting point for research and does not replace Locate. If you are having difficulties in finding a particular book in iDiscover, please try looking it up in Locate instead.


What is the difference between iDiscover and Locate?

The difference between iDiscover and Locate is as follows:

How do I conduct a specific search using iDiscover?

To conduct a more specific search such as a journal article, use Advanced Search.

Does iDiscover index the content from all the Library-subscribed online resources?
iDiscover does NOT index the content from certain online databases or e-journals that require a Library Staff login for access. Users should search these resources separately via Publication Finder.  

Borrowing/Returning Materials

How do I borrow item from the Restricted Loan Collection?

You have to present your ID card and the call number of the item that you wish to borrow to the library staff at Service Counter, Level G, Main Library.


How do I borrow/return library books or Restricted Loan materials?

You can approach the library staff at the Service Counter, Level G for the borrowing/returning of Open Shelf and/or Red Spot book(s) or Restricted Loan material(s). 


How do I obtain a book that is not available in the Main Library?

If a book is not held in the Main Library’s collection, you can submit a request via interlibrary loan (ILL) service / document delivery service (DDS).

Renewals and Holds

How do I renew items online?

Items must be renewed by their designated due date and time, which is 11.59 p.m. You can renew borrowed Open Shelf books and/or Red Spot books and/or Restricted Loan materials online by logging in to Locate, provided:

*Open Shelf books and Restricted Loan materials can be renewed online up to three (3) times. Red Spot books, however, are eligible for a one-time online renewal only.

 

How do I place a hold online?

You can place a hold on checked-out Open Shelf book(s), Red Spot book(s) or Restricted Loan material(s) online by signing in to Locate. You can place a hold on a maximum of 3 (three) items from these categories at any one time.


How do I check the status of my holds(s)?

You can check the status of your hold(s) by signing in to Locate. If the status is listed as 'On hold,' it means the item is still on loan. Once the item is returned, the status will change to 'Ready for pickup'.  

Online Databases (on and off-campus access)

How do I login to access the Library’s online resources (online databases, e-books, e-journals, etc.)?

On the "Access to TAR UMT Library Online Resources" login page, enter your TAR UMT Intranet username and password.

What is Locate?

Locate is a web-based OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). To access Locate, go to: https://tarumt.locate.ebsco.com/search/


Do I need a password to search Locate?

No password is required to search Locate.


How do I sign in to Locate?

Please sign in using your TAR UMT Gmail credentials.

Yes. Locate is accessible at anytime, anywhere over the web.
